Does Lowe’s Take Apple Pay?

If you’re planning on making some home improvements with products from Lowe’s, you may be wondering: Does Lowe’s take Apple Pay?

Lowes has your home improvement needs covered. They stock over 35,000 products in their 2,197 stores across the US and Canada. These range from building materials to tools, flooring, and outdoor appliances. However, before your next shopping trip, it’s a good idea to find out if they take your chosen payment method. This way, you won’t be caught off guard at the checkout.

There’s nothing more frustrating than having your items picked out and then being unable to pay for them.

As a well-known home improvement retailer in the U.S., Lowe’s accepts various payment methods, including credit cards and PayPal. If you prefer to pay with Apple Pay, you might be curious as to whether Lowe’s takes Apple Pay?

Here is what we discovered!

Does Lowe’s Accept Apple Pay as a Payment Method?

Lowe’s, unfortunately, does not accept payment via Apple Pay at this time. They don’t take this payment method because they don’t have NFC processors installed in their stores.

Apple Pay is a cardless payment option which utilized NFC (near field communication). This technology makes it easier to check out at the register using your iPhone or Apple Watch.

Despite the numerous advantages of Apple Pay, Lowe’s has no plans to integrate this payment method at this time. They do, however, accept other payment methods, such as debit or credit cards.

Can I Pay Online with Apple Pay at Lowes.Com?

Lowes.com is one of the largest online home improvement stores in the US, providing a wide selection of products and discounts.

Perhaps you prefer the convenience of shopping online instead of purchasing in-store. If so, you might be wondering if Lowes.com takes Apple Pay.

However, Lowes.com does not accept payment via Apple Pay either. Bear in mind that this payment option is also not accepted through the Lowe’s mobile app. But the good news is that there are some alternative payment methods available.

Lowes.com still offers many other forms of payment for you when you shop online, including the Lowes credit card.

If you have a Lowe’s gift card you can also use that to make payment. And there’s always the option of making payments online with a Visa, a Discover, or an American Express card. If you’d like to avoid credit card charges, you can pay with your debit card instead.

Why Doesn’t Lowes Take Apple Pay?

The world’s shopping industry is gradually shifting to cardless and contactless payment systems, thanks to accessibility to the internet and mobile phones. It’s no surprise that cardless payment options such as Apple Pay are becoming increasingly popular.

While most retailers have jumped on board with this trend, Lowe’s has not been keen to follow suit. The following are a few reasons why Lowe’s has been reluctant to integrate the Apple Pay payment method into its system.

  1. Transaction Fees

One of the main reasons Lowe’s doesn’t take Apple Pay is the fees involved.

The transaction fees for most contactless payment methods, such as Apple Pay, are calculated based on the entire purchase amount. This way, Apple Pay earns a percentage on each purchase.

These fees have a considerable impact on Lowe’s profit margins. And this is particularly evident when combined with the costs already incurred for other payment methods.

2. NFC Technology is Not Installed

Lowe’s does not have Apple Pay-compatible NFC technology integrated into its checkout processes. NFC technology allows you to make a transaction by scanning a code with your phone.

That said, others have embraced this technology to support alternative cashless and contactless payment methods. This includes payment options such as Google Pay and Samsung Pay.

Granted, the installation of these new systems can be pricey. Especially considering that Lowe’s would have to upgrade all its stores, including its franchises. It could just be that Lowe’s does not consider this upgrade a priority at the moment.

3. It Is Competition for the Lowe’s Credit Card

Lowe’s has a credit card of its own. Thus, installing Apple Pay could entice customers to use cardless, contactless payment methods instead of the Lowe’s credit card.

When customers use cardless payment methods such as Apple Pay, they can link their card to several other accounts. The benefit is that they have access to an alternative account if one of the others is unavailable.

This eliminates the need for a Lowe’s credit card altogether because it doesn’t offer the level of convenience Apple Pay does.

Because Lowe’s does not accept Apple Pay, customers are forced to find alternative ways to pay. And, for many, the alternative would be the Lowe’s credit card.

The Bottom Line

Sadly, Lowe’s does not have NFC technology available at their stores. This means they do not accept Apple Pay or other contactless and cardless payment options online or in-store.

On the other hand, they accept various other payment methods, including debit, gift, and credit cards. You can also use your Lowe’s credit card to make online and in-store purchases.

It’s important to note that each Lowe store takes different payment methods. Therefore, it is vital to find out before your next shopping trip to avoid any inconveniences or surprises.
